Author Werner Lind has penned a wonderful paranormal tale that retains all the classical elements of gothic vampire lore, yet one which still offers an extremely original story, sympathetic and engaging characters and a truly unique voice. Smoothly transitioning between Ana and Joshua's developing relationship and the threat of the violent Itchy in the present, and Ana's recollection of how she was deceived into become the blood-drinking creature she doesn't want to be in the past, the author creates an atmospheric story about the danger in judging others and about the redemptive power of love, putting true romance into the paranormal romance genre. Subtly imbued with spiritual messages and symbolism - the aptly-named carpenter, Joshua Davidson, not the only indication of the story's theme - Lifeblood is a beautifully-written novel and an exceptional example of quality speculative fiction. I loved everything about this story from Ana's moving plight to the well-crafted realism of her 17th century speech to the perfect pacing and skillful prose. A new favorite and highly recommended, I look forward to reading more stories by talented author, Werner Lind.

If you like vampire stories this is a great one in the classic mode. I enjoyed it so much I was unable to put it down and so read it in only three nights. Bloodline is a keeper you will want to read again.
After reading the synopsis of Lifeblood, I was instantly intrigued and hooked. The story sounded dark, gothic and incredible. Yes, it is a vampire genre based story, however don't let that fool you (for those who may be trying to keep away from this particular subject matter or have become burnt out on it). Lifeblood is a truly unique take on the vampire stories that are overtaking the reading audience everywhere.

Lifeblood is taken mainly from the perspective of a young woman who was tricked into becoming a vampire. The story transpires between the time of her early life, introduction into vampire-hood, her staking and the present time. The transactions are all smooth and perfectly executed. The writing style of Werner Lind is excellent, vivid and engrossing.

I sincerely loved the character of Ana Vasilifata. She instantly found a home within my heart. She exudes innocence, vulnerability, yet strength and courage. Readers will quickly bond with this amazing woman.

Joshua Davidson is a kind-hearted gentleman who has a deep faith and yearns to help Ana in any way possible. When he comes across Ana within an abandoned house, he is instantly intrigued and senses a loneliness and strength within her. It is their friendship that brings the hope of happiness and peace within Ana.

Questions surround this new stranger, especially when dead animals are found, bloodless, and the town troublemaker makes it no quiet pronouncement that he thinks Ana is a blood-sucking vampire. He will stop at nothing to kill her.

Lifeblood immediately sucked me in and held me encapsulated until the very end. The characterization is excellent and Mr. Lind's writing style is a bit "old-world". He does an amazing job with Ana's dialect and really brings her to life within the pages. I also found it interesting how there is a slight blending of religion, through Joshua's faith, with the darkness of vampirism. This made for an interesting contrast and gave additional depth to Joshua's character, at least for me.

Anyone looking for a wonderful and unique story that will send emotions reeling and hold attentions rapt will do well to grab a copy of Lifeblood. Werner Lind lend shows an excellent talent in this novel and I anxiously await more works by him.

Joshua gradually comes to learn the truth about Ana, while she wrestles with her feelings and tries - unsuccesfully - to conceal her identity.

Lifeblood possesses all the requisite trappings - bats, superstitious countryfolk, a coffin in a dark basement, a vampire hunter - but those looking for gore or the eroticism that characterizes much vampire fiction will not find them here. Violence is depicted with restraint.

Lifeblood flows easily and logically, with periods of action and suspense alternating with moments of tenderness. Lind handles Ana's awakening to the modern world with skill, humor, and perception. The real story is a very human one, a touching love story handled sensitively by first-time novelist Lind, with an original and highly effective ending.
